Thermal Grizzly der8enchtable

The der8enchtable is a collaboration between Thermal Grizzly, Jon “elmor” Sandström (ElmorLabs), and Roman “der8auer” Hartung. In addition to the functions of a typical benchtable, such as integrated mounts for radiators and power supplies, the der8enchtable features a base unit with an integrated printed circuit board (PCB) to which the hardware being tested can be connected.

For consistent test results, fans can be controlled via three fan controllers, each with three 4-pin fan connectors. Each of these fan zones can be individually set to 50% or 100% speed via a switch, delivers 3A power to supply the fans, and is equipped with a fuse. Additionally, it is possible to have the der8enchtable’s fan zones controlled externally by the motherboard.

Besides the fan control zones, the base unit with integrated PCB offers an additional control zone with two 4-pin headers for pumps or fans, providing the same control options as the fan zones. The pump zone supplies 3A per connector – a total of 6 amps – and both connectors have their own fuse. Peripherals can be connected to the der8enchtable via USB (4× Type-A, 2× Type-C).

Drivers, BIOS, or operating systems are usually required for testing and benchmarking hardware. To simplify this, storage media can be installed directly on the benchtable. Two 2.5-inch SSDs can be mounted on the PCB. Additionally, the PCB offers four slots for MicroSD memory cards, which represent a cost-effective alternative to solid-state drives (SSDs) in terms of price per GB.

The motherboard used for testing is connected to the der8enchtable via the 9-pin USB header. Power for the der8enchtable is supplied via a PCIe 6-pin cable from the power supply. To control the addressable RGB lighting (aRGB), the der8enchtable can be connected to the motherboard via a 3-pin header. Alternatively, external RGB control (not included) is possible. A power button and reset function are also integrated on the PCB and connected to the motherboard via cables.

The PCB of the der8enchtable features pre-mounted standoffs for ATX motherboards, which can be reconfigured for Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX motherboards. A power supply can be mounted in the lower part of the black anodised aluminium frame; a customisable Velcro strap is included for cable management. If the lower frame section is not needed, the feet can be attached directly to the base unit, making the der8enchtable significantly more compact.
