The Thermal Grizzly AM5 High Performance Heat Spreader in Detail

The AM5 High Performance Heat Spreader is an upgrade heat spreader for AMD’s Ryzen 7000 and 9000 processors, including the current 9000X3D models. The nickel-plated copper heat spreader features a 240% larger, diamond-machined precision surface. This enlarged surface compared to the original heat spreader allows for maximum heat dissipation with air and water coolers, while the precision machining ensures an extremely low surface roughness for optimal contact with the heatsink.

The nickel-plated surface of the AM5 High Performance Heat Spreader is compatible with traditional thermal pastes and gallium-based liquid metals. The nickel forms a barrier layer between the liquid metal and the copper cooler, preventing the liquid metal from diffusing into the copper and minimising alloy formations. As a result, multiple applications of liquid metal are typically unnecessary.

For a maintenance-free system, a KryoSheet graphene thermal pad can be used as a thermal interface between the CPU and the AM5 High Performance Heat Spreader. Since KryoSheet pads are electrically conductive, a cover to protect the electronic components on the CPU package is included.
