The Mobile Origin CA31 is a magnetic car phone holder. It clips into a slatted air vent with a hook and holds your phone with the strength of 17 N52 neodymium magnets. It works with MagSafe-compatible phones as well as regular phones, to which you attach the included metal ring.

360° rotation for portrait and landscape

The holder sits on an adjustable joint that turns your phone all the way around through 360° and tilts it to the sides. You can keep navigation in portrait, switch video or an incoming call to landscape, and align the screen depending on where the sun is coming into the car. The joint tightens with a nut, so it keeps the set position even while driving and the phone won’t tilt down on its own.

17 N52 neodymium magnets for a firm hold

The magnetic ring contains 17 N52-grade neodymium magnets, which is among the strongest commonly available neodymium grades. The ring follows the MagSafe magnet layout, so an iPhone 12 or newer snaps into the right position on its own and stays put even on cobblestones or under braking. The higher holding force is especially useful with larger, heavier phones that weaker magnets can’t hold on a bumpy road.

Suitable for phones from 4 to 7 inches

The magnetic mount works with phones that have a display diagonal of 4 to 7 inches, from compact models to large phones. Because the phone is held by magnets rather than a mechanical clamp, the size and shape of the phone body matter less than with clamp holders; what counts most is the position of the magnetic ring or the metal plate stuck on the back. Even a large phone in a case fits within the range, provided it has a magnetic ring or metal ring roughly in the middle of the back.

Easy mounting into the slatted grille

The holder clips into the slats of the air vent with a hook, and a locking nut lets you set the clip opening exactly to the thickness of the slats. The hook handles a spacing of 12.5 to 26 mm and fits horizontal, vertical, and angled slatted vents; it isn’t suitable for round circular vents. Before mounting, it’s therefore worth checking that your car has a classic slatted vent. Fitting it then takes just a moment, and it holds without adhesive or a suction cup.

MagSafe and regular phones thanks to the metal ring

You place an iPhone 12 or newer directly onto the magnet, even without a case, and genuine MagSafe covers work without any extra accessories. For phones without MagSafe or in a regular case, stick the included metal ring in the middle of the back, press it on for 8 to 10 seconds, and start using the holder only after 24 hours so the adhesive fully cures. Never stick the metal ring directly onto an iPhone 12 or newer without a case; it attaches with its own magnets and doesn’t need the ring.

Dimensions and Weight

The assembled holder, including the vent hook, measures Ø 61 x 101 mm and weighs 69 g on its own. The 61 mm diameter ring matches the area of the MagSafe magnetic ring, so the phone sits flush across the whole contact surface and the magnets line up precisely. Its own weight of 69 g doesn’t strain the vent slats, so once fitted, the holder doesn’t sag or rotate under its own weight.
